5/09/2007 - Glasgow PR agency short listed for top award

Carrie WallaceAn emerging star at Glasgow based PR and media training consultancy Axis Media Group has been short listed for a top PR industry award.

Account Manager Carrie Wallace (25) has been short listed for Outstanding Young Communicator of the Year in the Scottish region of the 2007 New PRide Awards, the only national awards scheme showcasing the best PR work carried out across the UK regions and nations.

Paul Murricane, managing director of Axis Media Group, said: “Carrie was one of our first employees when she joined Axis Media Group in 2005 as a graduate. In the last two years she has taken control of a remarkable range of different clients, giving a hard-edged journalistic approach to our business magazine Enterprising Glasgow, and displaying calm, organised event management skills for the New Start Scotland exhibition. Many of our clients are based south of the Border. In my view, Carrie gives them the same if not better standard of service than any leading London agency. Can we keep her please?”

Working with many private and public sector clients including Health Protection Scotland, Carrie has skilfully handled major crises such as last year’s anthrax scare which attracted an onslaught from the UK and foreign media lasting several days.

Carrie also led the team which has put New Start Scotland, a major annual event for start-up companies, firmly on the Scottish business map. Now in its fourth year, New Start Scotland has thrived with coverage in every Scottish national daily newspaper, Scottish Television, Radio Clyde and Real Radio as well as many more. As a result of her success she has now been asked to edit and write the regular New Start Scotland magazines and online service – both new services for 2008, as well as continuing to lead the PR team.

Carrie said: “Being short listed in the New PRide Awards is one of the highest achievements I could hope for. Being recognised by a panel of industry experts as one of the best young communicators in the country, has given, not only me, but the entire team at Axis Media Group a great boost.”

Colin Farrington, CIPR Director General and Chairman of the Judges, said: “To reach the PRide Awards short list is a remarkable achievement as year on year the quantity and quality of entries increases and competition gets stronger. The finalists are testament to the good PR work going on outside of London and across sectors. They should feel proud of their and their chosen profession’s invaluable contribution to business and society.”

The full shortlist is expected to be announced on Friday 14th September. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Glasgow Radisson Hotel on November 16th.
