16/2/2007 - RACING GALORE AS SCOTTISH TEAM RACES ON BIO-FUEL
Lanarkshire Team Clyde Valley Racing, the only Scottish-owned professional motor racing team racing in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) 2007, is to power its entire fleet of racing cars in 2007 on biofuel made from grains normally used to produce Scotch whisky. The team has taken the dramatic step to ensure completely carbon-neutral motor racing.
Environmentally friendly E85 produces nearly zero carbon emissions. Otherwise known as bio ethanol, it can be made from many crops grown in the UK, yet it delivers as much power as petrol-based racing fuel.
The last time a Scottish owned team was entered was six years ago in 2001.
First driver Dan Eaves, 2005 multiple BTCC race winning driver and star of BBC’s Road Rage School and second driver Colin Neill, team owner and ex Scottish moto-cross rider, will represent Scotland, racing two Chevrolet Lacetti World Touring Cars.
Colin said: “We’re proud to put Scotland at the forefront of environmentally friendly motor racing. As Scotland’s only home-owned professional racing team, spectator loyalty has always been important to us, and we’re hoping to get the whole nation, families and businesses alike, behind this plan.”
“The support that Scots can generate is phenomenal, especially when people see them as the underdogs – just look at the MacDonald Brothers in the X-factor!”
Colin added: “In three years time, the Government directive is to have at least 5% of all cars in the UK running on Bio fuel – that’s the equivalent of taking one million cars off the road with reduced emissions from running cars on Bio fuel.”
“The Governments Energy Efficient Motor Sport (EEMS) scheme is supportive of our team and provides guidance on bio-ethanol fuel related areas.”
“We aim to prove that our race cars running on bio-ethanol are efficient, environmentally friendly, reliable and capable of high performance, winning races and winning championships.”
“Not only do our race-cars produce significantly less carbon emissions than there road bearing counterparts but the team's unique approach will set the pace in 2007, running our entire season “Carbon Neutral”. This includes test, practice and qualifying plus race mileage for both cars.”
“We have pledged with The Carbon trust to plant a substantial amount of trees to neutralise our race cars CO2 emissions for the 2007 season. We will also be planting an additional tree for every championship point scored!”
“People may argue that motorsport Co2 emissions are part of the environmental problem or part of the solution! We see it as part of the solution. If we can help showcase what we stand for and make people aware that everyone should take corporate & social responsibility for their carbon footprint by offsetting there Co2 emissions then we are moving towards climate change that will have a real positive effect on our children of the future making the environment the real winner!”
The BTCC visits all the major race circuits in the UK from Knockhill in Scotland, to Brands Hatch in Kent.

4. Clyde Valley Racing is the UK’s Official Chevrolet Customer Team and will be fielding 2 x Chevrolet Lacetti World Touring Cars powered by Bio-Ethanol fuel. Our team will be one of the first Carbon Neutral race organisation in the UK, running the entire season Carbon Clear…
5. The TCVR team will be offsetting its carbon footprint with the help and support of EMMS and other regulated Industry leading bodies. They also have the necessary technical and engineering support to compete at the sharp end of the grid from one of the worlds leading race car constructors RML (Ray Mallock Ltd) who are currently running Chevrolet Europe’s World Touring Car programme.
6. Whilst TCVR appreciate the support of both Chevrolet and EEMS, motor racing is an expensive sport and for their cars to compete in the BTCC (the pinnacle of motorsport in the UK) external partnerships are fundamental to the success of the team. For this reason TCVR are able to offer the best value, flexible sponsorship and strategic partnership opportunities on the grid.
