18/12/2006 - VIP DRINKS AT CLASSIC GRAND CASINO ROYALE PARTY

VIP Party - Classic Grand Nightclub GlasgowThe Classic Grand at 18, Jamaica Street doesn’t quite sit right in its slightly sleazy setting next to McDonalds and Central Station. The décor is sophisticated, with art deco style and beautiful fittings highlighting the smooth arches of the former cinema screens. The two floors of the club are seductively waiting to welcome more than 1000 revellers with open arms, making the venue a more than adequate rival to King Tuts and the ABC. A bar / club / live music venue with a funky VIP area, the Classic Grand has already hosted Pink and entourage during her recent “I’m not dead” tour, as well as being the venue of choice for Babyshambles and New Order.

Theme nights for grown ups

Guest list opportunities and frequent theme nights will see those with a sense of style able to dress up and get down for free. In the lead up to Christmas the venue is open every day from 7.30pm til late, and with live music and late night options every day of the week the Classic Grand is more of a classy hangout for grownups than yet another thumping club night on the Glasgow scene. Music is an eclectic mix – with resident DJs Marky Mark and Normski & Zeus’s vintage, funk and Indie hits appealing to a varied crowd.

Despite its firmly upmarket feel, with Bombay gin on the optic and the option of real coffee at the bar, the club’s roots are amusingly entrenched in rather seedy origins with rainmacked punters visiting for dirty flicks as recently as the 80s. The Classic Grand doesn’t mind the odd wink back at its porno palace past, though. Now its soft porn style is strictly for kicks – and high kicks at that. Club Noir, Glasgow’s most sophisticated society for those who like to dress up and have fun is moving to the Classic Grand from the Carling Academy for some saucy New Year celebrations. With vaudeville acts from striptease to fetish artistes, live musicians and dancers, the night promises to be one to remember.

Casino Royale offers VIP drinks

Leading up to the Christmas season the Classic Grand is keen to attract a crowd who are into dressing up and having fun. In keeping with its smooth style, the first themed occasion hopes to get punters shaken and stirred with a Casino Royale themed party night. Saturday 16th December will see the Classic Grand decked out with card tables and Glasgow group Easy Orchestra will hot up the atmosphere with groovy lounge music Bond hits, accompanied by special drinks offers. Guests will also receive complimentary shots of VIP black Paolucci sambuca “a la mosca”, a neat cocktail shot containing a single coffee bean.

This alternative Christmas party night should offer a chance for all the boys and girls out on the town a chance to get kitted out in their gladrags, with free entry for those in their best Bond DJs and glam Bondgirl style evening dresses with invitation. The guy or gal with the best costume could win themselves a holiday among other prizes, so the only question remains is whether anyone will dare to brave the Glasgow chill in just a Ursula Andress white bikini?
