14/11/06 - LOCAL HAMILTON COMPANY HELPS TV STAR TO CHANGE HER LIFE
BBC’s River City star Deirdre Davis has credited Hamilton based company, Anne Penman Laser Therapy (APLT), as being responsible for “changing her life”.
Deirdre, who plays barmaid Eileen Donachie in the popular soap, had been a smoker for over 20 years before she managed to quit with APLT, who use laser therapy to help people quit smoking, in time for Scotland’s smoking ban over six months ago.
Deirdre (42) said: “Meeting Margaret-Ann at Anne Penman Laser Therapy and getting the laser therapy to stop smoking was one of the best things I've ever done. I haven't so much as had a cigarette in my hand since the first session over seven months ago.”
“Many of my friends smoke and I don't avoid being around them or attending social gatherings. I've had days like everyone else when I've been bored or fed up or stressed out but I haven't smoked. It crosses my mind but I really don't want to start again. It might sound daft, but I feel clean now and I don't want to feel smelly and grubby again! It's like finally getting rid of a horrible boyfriend: it just feels like the right thing to do and everyone around you says how great you look. You might still get a wee pang now and again but it's only an echo from the past like the snatch of a song that you and the loser boyfriend used to dance to.”
“I found the breathing exercises really useful and still use them. And the fact that Margaret Ann was an ex-smoker who had stopped on this method helped too.”
“Someone said to me recently that laser therapy was surely just a placebo thing and all just a con - he said this with a fag in his hand incidentally. I replied that I, a committed 30 a day smoker, had quit forever so who exactly was being conned? He had the good grace to take the point!”
“I would recommend this method to anyone serious about quitting. It worked 100% for me and, without exaggeration, it changed my life.”
As well as Deirdre, other celebrities have quit smoking using the laser therapy include ITV’s Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan.
