06/10/06 - POLLOK FC SWAP BARNETS FOR BEVERAGES WITH NEW STRIP SPONSOR

Suio Water and Pollock FCPollok FC Junior League Club are hoping that a new strip will bring them luck as they take on rivals Clydebank FC in this evening’s Sectional League Cup, starting at 7.45pm at the neutral Lochburn Park Grounds in Maryhill.

The new strip is sponsored by local mineral water company Suio – owned by Scots-Italian entrepreneur Tony Vezza. Designed in characteristic black and white vertical stripes, the jerseys have an alternative twist to the usual design, sporting black sleeves. Players also have a choice of black or white shorts and socks, depending on the colours of the opposing team.

Lok’s strip has been sponsored by Vezza’s Barbers for over a decade, with a strong family loyalty dating back over sixty years to when players would use the back of the barber shop as a meeting place, before the team clubhouse was built in the late forties.

Suio chairman Tony Vezza said:

“I am always happy to show my support for the Pollok FC team – and the Vezza family have been avid fans for as long as I can remember. I’ll be cheering the boys on tonight and hoping that the strip brings them luck.”

The clubs are expecting a combined fan base of over 1,500 supporters to show up for the cup final clash. Pollok FC past president Jim Gilligan said:

"Clydebank FC are a former senior team, with some good players, but I think that the Lok can give them a run for their money, as I’d say we’re one of the strongest teams in the Junior League. It’s a real result that Tony Vezza is backing us again with Suio water sponsoring the strip."

Pollok FC have won the Junior League six times in recent history, with their last victory in 2004.
