06/09/06 CELEBRITY SPORTS STARS DRINK UP SPONSORSHIP DEAL
Suio, Scotland’s premium bottled water, has been chosen as the major refreshment sponsor for popular Sky One programme “The Match”, which sees celebrity contestants battle it out with footballing legends in the year’s biggest celebrity sports event.
The sponsorship deal marks the latest sporting success for the company, who already provide water to Scottish Athletics, Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club and a host of football clubs across Scotland including Partick Thistle, St Mirren and Dundee United.
Keeping hot celebs cool
The company will be providing nearly 10,000 bottles of still water to keep a host of footballing wannabes hydrated as they compete for a place on the celebrity team in the ultimate charity match. Action began last weekend when 80 celebrity hopefuls including The Royle Family’s Ralf Little, Syed Ahmed from The Apprentice, BB6 and 7 stars Anthony Hutton and Mikey Dalton, and Holby City’s Ed, otherwise known as actor Rocky Marshall.
The final 11 will meet a Legends team of big sporting names - led by player-manager Peter Reid of Sunderland including Peter Shilton, Ally McCoist, Ian Wright and Bryan Robson - in a match at St James’ Park in Newcastle on Sunday 8th October 2006.
Singing Suio’s praises
As well as targeting the sports market with their healthy zero nitrates water, Suio has been chosen by Scottish Opera to refresh and strengthen the vocal chords of top singers like soprano Rebecca Nash, who will play Madam Butterfly next year, and internationally renowned singer Max Emmanuel Cencic who takes the lead in Handel’s Tamerlano.
Suio is one of the few waters on the market that, as well as boasting low sodium, can claim to have high levels of beneficial minerals like calcium and magnesium, both vital for internal health and strong bones. The water can even claim to have imperial approval, as the Roman Emperor Nero bathed in the water’s source and drank from the springs high in mountains above Rome. It also has governmental go-ahead with a stamp from the Italian Ministry of Health.
Staying hydrated and healthy
Operations director Steven Devine said:
“Staying hydrated will be extremely important for all of the players in The Match, but especially so for the celebs who probably won’t be used to such intense levels of exercise. We are proud to have been chosen by so many organisations keen to look after their health.”
Duncan Groves, production manager for The Match said:
"As this event is on such a large scale and for charity, we were pleased to find sponsors to supply us with products throughout both the trials and final matches. It will be great exposure for Suio."
Fundraising manager for Scottish Opera, Catriona Reynoulds, said:
"Italian singers have always been known to have strong operatic voices, and it seemed fitting that we chose an Italian water for our performers. The water has been going down a treat with everyone on the cast.
